Data Management of Legacy Data

Minimising inaccuracies & duplicates

In order for the government to achieve its objective of providing a central source of reliable data, departments must also deal with their legacy databases. In many cases these will have been compiled over several years, with address data stored in a variety of non-uniform formats.

Not only may these addresses be incorrect due to misspellings or wrong postcodes, but a proportion of records held will go out of date every month due to changes to postcode areas and properties. It is, therefore, essential for departments to clean and update their data on a regular basis. QAS can work through any database to verify, update and standardise existing customer records.

As well as facilitating data sharing between departments, the updated and standardised database will help government to correspond with its customers effectively and promptly. This will reduce undelivered and returned mail, saving money and helping government to build the right image. In addition, Australia Post discounts through barcoding can be achieved.
