Software-as-a-service handy for Surf Life Saving
Volunteers working for Surf Life Saving have been given the gift of time, after employing software-as-a-service and infrastructure-as-a-service meant they could devote themselves to the job at hand.
A raft of services completed by the charity have now been handed over to the cloud, after it was discovered that volunteers were spending too much time on data entry and administration.
The Australian government has put a substantial chunk of money towards the project to move services over to the cloud, in a bid to allow the volunteers to use their time to save lives rather than complete office work, ZD Net reported.
One of the most important aspects of the service is that it brings together all the information that the life savers may need and puts it to hand in one place.
The project also aims to get rid of dated paper ways of doing things and update the system. For instance, patrols have previously had to use radios to call in. They will now be able to use mobile phones, and the information will be stored using the new cloud system.
Many companies and organisations have started to see the services offered through cloud computing as indispensible, as a study by AMD showed that two-thirds of companies which started using it in recent months said they have already started to see the benefit.
