Shift to cloud computing 'on its way'

Dec 8 2009, 22:26 PM

The move to cloud computing is occurring right now, according to one expert.

Thomas Young, a partner and managing director at IT contract broker TPI, told Search Cloud Computing that forward-thinking chief information officers were already preparing their businesses to make the switch.

He added that it was uncertain how long it would be before cloud computing services are used by the majority of companies.

"I believe in five years it'll be more than we expected, in two years it'll be less," he said.

"If people are interested in the status quo, they are going to be very sad."

Mr Young went on to say that he believed most organisations understood the concept of outsourcing in regard to their IT operations, particularly if they already used the measure in other areas of their business.

According to research by consultancy PAC, cloud computing will grow by 20 per cent each year for the next 12 years, reported V3 recently.
