Private clouds 'a stepping stone to public cloud computing'
Dec 1 2009, 21:56 PM
Internal cloud services within organisations will be a stepping stone to the future introduction of public cloud computing services, a new report by IT analyst Gartner has suggested.
The research company expect that spending on private clouds will outstrip that on public clouds for the next two years, as businesses manage and deploy their IT resources internally.
Tom Bittman, vice president at Gartner, said this will ease the transition to public cloud computing offerings.
"Making these changes sooner rather than later will help enterprises to take better cloud sourcing decisions and potentially make for an easier transition to public cloud computing," he stated.
Mr Bittman suggested that larger businesses should be looking to create "dynamic sourcing teams" who will be able to orchestrate which cloud computing operations their company is involved in.
Last week, consultancy company Pac predicted that the cloud computing market is set to grow at an annual rate of 20 per cent over the next 12 years.
