Oracle: Data security a key issue for investors
Jun 22 2009, 00:43 AM
Data security will become an increasingly important issue to investors in the coming years, according to Oracle.
Speaking at an event organised by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation, Oracle's Nigel Virgo explained that many companies now had substantial databases of customer and employee information.
Database management has become a key role in companies as they look to find ways to effectively use the information for marketing purposes.
Mr Virgo said it is important not to let the "management of the information get out of control", as that may lead to security risks.
Any kind of data security problem may have serious long-term implications for companies, he continued.
Many investors now view IT security as an important part of their investment decisions, said Mr Virgo, so any business which has had data loss problems may have difficulty finding financial backers.
The view was expressed just days after Marketing Innovation Group advised companies that extensive customer databases can be used as effectively for client retention as customer acquisition.
