Offshore cloud computing defended
Oct 12 2010, 16:13 PM
Utilising offshore cloud computing centres has not been poorly received by customers of one major IT organisation.
These comments were made by NetSuite Chief Executive Zach Nelson, who claimed he does not know of any major customers he has lost as a result of his organisation having data centres in the US rather than Australia, reported ARN.
"The fact that the data is hosted in the US really hasn't been an issue today for Australian customers," he told the news provider.
In his opinion, it is a feature of NetSuite's international evolution that data centres will spring up across the globe.
Mr Nelson explained that his company may soon be developing a regional cloud computing facility in either Australia or Singapore.
This week, iTnews was told by a spokesperson from law firm Truman Hoyle that businesses need to be sure that adequate safeguards are in place if an organisation uses an offshore cloud to store consumer data.
