HackGov winners unveiled
Jun 13 2012, 13:07 PM
The winning submissions of a recent two-day hackathon, HackGov, have been released, with a graphical representation of tax spend among the data management applications to receive recognition.
'Where are my taxes going?' was one of the winning entries in the hackathon, which allows users to drill into different government services and determine what the average tax contribution you make to them. Examples are paying an average of $416 servicing the national debt, and $642 toward Medicare.
Another application that was successful at the conference was a bushfire app, which calculates the best possible evacuation routes from areas affected by wildfires. The application uses information from Geoscience Australia and overlaps it with Google maps, which could help the emergency services save more lives from bush fires.
Egovernment is becoming an integral part of the Australian government, with half a million people already using the Australia.gov.au single login with thousands more joining each week.
