Get cloud computing security right from the start
Oct 31 2011, 00:05 AM
A few simple steps mean that companies can get cloud computing security right from the start, according to one expert.
Security and privacy concerns are the main issues putting many companies off embracing the cloud, meaning that they miss out on all the benefits the technology can bring, however, Steve Durbin, vice president sales and marketing for the Information Security Forum, thinks these problems can be avoided.
Speaking to IT Wire, he said that it is key to research providers carefully and ask them any security questions before committing.
"The only time you've got any control is on the way in," he told the news provider, adding that the balance of power shifts to the provider once you have signed a contract.
Mr Durbin also said that people should consider the price of the service carefully, if it seems too good to be true it probably is.
He added that it is vital companies agree on a level of security with their provider upfront and also agree to termination terms before embarking on any projects.
