Ecommerce via tablets 'to become more popular'

Jul 28 2011, 00:22 AM

Ecommerce businesses may wish to embrace mobile shopping applications in the coming months as the technology is increasingly popular with shoppers using tablet computers.

Research by Forrester Research and Bizrate Insight highlights that the popularity of devices such as the iPad means there is a high demand for apps relating to shopping,

A survey of tablet owners conducted by the companies found that 60 per cent had used the gadgets to make a purchase.

"Everyone thinks that mobile phones and mobile commerce are the next big things, and I think what this data shows is it’s probably actually tablets," said report co-author and Forrester ecommerce analyst Sucharita Mulpuru.

Ecommerce as a whole is becoming increasingly popular with tech-savvy consumers, with shoppers in Australia proving particularly keen on shopping online.

Data from ComScore recently revealed that businesses in Australia received a massive $143 billion worth of online orders in 2009-10 alone, while the country had more online shoppers than other nations.
