Ecommerce to grow rapidly by 2013
Oct 19 2011, 22:10 PM
Ecommerce in Australia is set to soar in the next two years, with online shopping likely to grow 12.2 per cent in 2012, according to new data.
The figures from PayPal show that around $37.7 billion will be spent online by 2013.
Commenting on the figures, PayPal Australia managing director, Frenk-Malte Feller, said: “Online commerce is no longer just about having a website and we have seen more changes in the way people shop and pay in the last year than we have seen in the last fifteen."
In terms of what is driving this growth, Mr Feller said that the growing popularity of smartphones means that customers have access to ecommerce everywhere they go, at any time.
To take advantage of this growing market, ecommerce businesses need to make sure they are embracing the latest technologies.
"In the last year we have seen a wealth of new business models emerge, that are re-defining the point of purchase,” Mr Feller continued.
Recent research by Forrester highlighted that Australian online stores are planning to invest in better technology over the coming years.
