Ecommerce market to grow by 20 per cent a year

Aug 10 2012, 12:46 PM

The Australian ecommerce market is expected to grow 20 per cent a year over the next few years, according to logistics company Toll Group.

Aussies have gone wild for online shopping of late, spending A$10.5 billion with online retailers in 2011. This is up 29 per cent on the previous year, and recent forecasts show that this surge in popularity is set to continue.

82 per cent of Australians currently shop online, and if the growing trend continues, sales will reach a massive $21.7 billion by 2015, more than 10 per cent of the current total retail sales in Australia. Logistics groups operating in the country have had to make swift changes to adapt to the market, and Toll Group has been rolling out new address management solutions to deal with increasing delivery demand.

A new program will see newsagents in Melbourne being utilised to collect parcels, making it easier for consumers to receive the products they order online.#
