Data management 'can help government deliver better services'
Mar 9 2010, 21:23 PM
Data management techniques that integrate information and consolidate data sources can help government departments provide better services to citizens under their remit, an expert has suggested.
Speaking at the FutureGov forum, Ray O'Brien, architecture centre of excellence director for Teradata, explained that data management processes have helped commercial companies centralise important business information techniques that could be applied to state agencies.
Mr O'Brien said that the integrated information provided by data management means "governments can apply data mining to confidently ask and answer complex questions in near-real time, and better serve citizens with reliable insight into logistics, healthcare, intelligence, homeland security and finance".
He added that it is important government officials realise what an important asset data is to how well their organisation operates.
Last week, industry commentator Matt Prigge wrote on InfoWorld that data management process such as data backup can help ensure a fast response to the loss of information.
