Company aims to take the cloud to the countryside
Nov 23 2011, 23:24 PM
A new Australian company is aiming to take cloud computing to the countryside where broadband speeds are slower.
The TUPS Company has set up a containerised data centre and WiFi network in Gunnedah and has worked with the local council to trial the system over the next 12 months, reports IT Wire.
By connecting to the outside world via a high bandwidth point-to-point wireless link the company enables people and businesses in the region to access a full cloud and data centre environment where previously they would not have been able to access enough bandwidth.
Gunnedah Shire Council mayor Adam Marshall told the news provider: "The TUPS implementation gives our regional and rural users access to pricing plans that are available to those in the city, without compromising on the quality and speed of the Internet service. We look forward to bringing more businesses online and to providing access to residents and farming families who are located more remotely out of town."
Reports suggest that TUPS has plans to rollout its system to several other areas in the near future.
