Cloud computing 'will help IT operations become more efficient'
Feb 10 2010, 21:40 PM
Cloud computing is set to cause a revolution in how IT operations go about their business, an expert has suggested.
According to Bernard Golden, author of Virtualization for Dummies, cloud computing will change what it means to work in the sector, reports CIO.com.
"The impact of cloud computing will be to shift the tasks for IT operations from tactical resource provisioning to strategic resource planning - with an emphasis on achieving the most efficient, lowest-cost infrastructure possible," he stated.
Mr Golden added that the most successful people working in IT operations will be the ones able to switch their focus from controlling the allocation of resources to the best way of locating them.
Last week, Linda Wilson, IT director for global public relations organisation The Hoffman Agency, said that it was important for companies making the change to cloud computing to enlist professional help while doing so.
She said some of the complex tasks that have to be completed when making such a move required someone with specialist knowledge and experience.
