Cloud computing 'is becoming more widely accepted'
Jul 24 2009, 00:57 AM
Businesses in the financial sector are increasingly starting to embrace cloud computing, an analyst has noted.
According to Rachael Singh of Accountancy Age, many companies have been divided over whether outsourcing their IT requirements in this way would be advantageous or potentially risky.
However, she said acceptance of cloud computing is gradually increasing, partly because a growing number of traditional software providers are becoming keen to enter the market.
Ms Singh stated that expert forecasts of further growth in the take-up of options such as software-as-a-service (SaaS) have also changed business sentiment.
Stefan Reid, an IT analyst at Forrester Researcher, added that he too believes cloud computing will become more popular in the next few years.
"It is not merely a matter of if cloud computing will be adopted, but how fast," he commented.
This comes after research by Gartner found that 32 per cent of SaaS users intend to expand their use of the technology over the next two years, while 58 per cent will maintain current levels during this period.
