Cloud computing 'a once in a decade technology shift'
Dec 3 2009, 21:29 PM
Cloud computing is one of the rare shifts in technology that you see every ten to 12 years, one expert has claimed.
In a recent speech, Carl Bass, chief executive officer and president of technology manufacturer, explained that cloud computing was moving through the same stages of development that the internet and computers themselves had gone through.
"The impossible and the impractical moves to what is possible and expected, and finally to what is required," he said of the evolution of new technological concepts.
Mr Bass added that cloud computing was the kind of "shift that happens every 10 to 12 years," reports the Epoch Times.
He said that companies who got their timing right by installing the correct technology as it reaches the "possible" stage would stay ahead of their competitors.
According to a recent forecast by consultants PAC, cloud computing is set to grow at a rate of 20 per cent each year for the next 12 years, reported V3.
