Business intelligence solutions 'to be provided via cloud computing'
Jun 21 2010, 00:02 AM
A large number of companies believe their business intelligence (BI) solutions will be moved to cloud computing or software-as-a-service applications in the near future.
According to a survey carried out by Computerworld Australia, 23 per cent expect their main BI solution to be based on the cloud within the next three years.
At the moment, seven per cent of those questioned use software-as-a-service and cloud computing offerings for their BI.
Steve Pike, chief information officer of wireless networking provider Enfora, explained that his company had recently opted for a cloud-based solution for its customer service and support.
"It is pretty simple to do and the platform is very agile," he explained. "You can set up quick wins and get information out."
Earlier this month, Peter Coffee, director of platform research for Salesforce.com, told Bloomberg Businessweek that he believes concerns about the security of cloud computing are falling away.
He said that the greater flexibility of the services on offer is helping to achieve this.
