May 20 2011, 17:07 PM

Address capture and other sectors of data capture are coming under the spotlight in an ongoing debate about economic benefit and privacy.

Companies around the country may have grown concerned by an increasing number of data breaches which have taken place in recent weeks, and they are not alone.

Malcolm Crompton, managing director of Information Integrity Solutions, told IT News that privacy and ethical issues surrounding the use of data were big news at the moment, and they needed to be addressed.

He told the news provider that while there is a need to protect the privacy of individuals, it is also essential that companies can share data, including email addresses and physical addresses.

Mr Crompton cited fellow data expert Eli Parsier in saying that ethical methods needed to be devised to solve the problem.

Several companies in Australia have experienced data breaches in recent months.
